Melaka’s Mega Kacau Dodol Raya 2026 event will see 500 volunteers cooking 50 huge woks of the traditional sweet, aiming to attract visitors and promote cultural diversity.

MELAKA: Five hundred volunteers are expected to be involved in cooking 50 huge woks of dodol at the ‘Mega Kacau Dodol Raya 2026’ event next month.

The community event is set to take place in front of the Independence Declaration Memorial in Banda Hilir on March 14.

State Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman said the event involves the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) and several local NGOs.

“The dodol-stirring event aims not just to brighten Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, but also to invite visitors and tourists to join in,” he told reporters.

He added that the number of woks was increased to 50 from 30 last year due to strong public response.

The traditional sweet treat will be distributed to visitors and tourists to promote it to international guests and young people.

Abdul Razak said the event is part of the Visit Melaka 2.0 campaign.

It aims to showcase the nation’s cultural diversity through festival celebrations.

The event will also host the state’s annual breaking of fast programme.

This programme will serve free food and drinks to around 2,000 visitors and tourists.

“This programme celebrates Muslims observing the fast while also including non-Muslims,” he said.

He added that it helps to strengthen bonds between the communities.
