A 50% toll discount for private vehicles on most highways aims to ease travel costs for Malaysians returning for Aidilfitri, with maintenance halted to ensure smooth journeys.

KUALA LUMPUR: The government has announced a 50% toll discount for private vehicles to help ease travel costs for Malaysians returning to their hometowns for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the initiative aligns with the MADANI Government’s agenda to maintain unity and well-being across all communities.

The discount will be in effect from 12.01 am on March 18 until 11.59 pm on March 19 for Class 1 private vehicles on all highways, except at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) Toll Plaza, the North-South Expressway (PLUS), and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (LINKEDUA).

Nanta explained that the selected dates aim to avoid traffic congestion on peak travel days while optimising operations and logistical coordination at highway rest areas.

All highway maintenance work will be halted from March 18 to March 30 to ensure smoother traffic flow and minimise disruptions for festive travellers.

The minister advised highway users to plan their journeys in advance and utilise the Malaysian Highway Authority’s (LLM) TuJu navigation and MyPLUS-TTA applications for travel recommendations.

He also urged motorists to follow signboard instructions, observe speed limits, and pay attention to information displayed on the Variable Message System (VMS) for a safer trip.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Cabinet’s decision to implement the discount is part of comprehensive measures to assist the people with the rising cost of living ahead of the festive season.
