Indian and Malaysian leaders call for de-escalation and peace in West Asia during an Eid greeting phone call

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed the urgent need for de-escalation in West Asia during a phone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The call, which took place on Thursday, also served as an opportunity for Modi to extend Eid Al Fitr greetings to Anwar and the people of Malaysia.

Modi described the situation in West Asia as “deeply concerning” in a post on his X page following the discussion.

“We also discussed the deeply concerning situation in West Asia and reaffirmed our shared commitment to de-escalation and the early restoration of peace and stability through dialogue and diplomacy,” he said.

The leaders discussed the regional tensions provoked by the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran.

Both reaffirmed a joint commitment to resolving the crisis through peaceful diplomatic channels.
