The Education Ministry will speed up phase two of CCTV installation in 333 boarding schools this year, following the first phase completed in 200 schools

KOTA BHARU: The Ministry of Education will expedite the installation process for the second phase of closed-circuit television systems in 333 boarding schools this year.

Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad said this initiative continues the first phase completed in 200 schools.

He stated the implementation is now at a technical stage, as installation must comply with privacy laws.

“We are seeking input from the Office of the Chief Government Security Officer and other parties to preserve children’s rights and privacy,” he told reporters after an MOE programme here.

Mohd Azam added the ministry is collaborating with the Public Works Department for technical advice on installation procedures.

He assured that despite various technical and legal reviews, the installation for 333 schools will be expedited.

Previously, Bernama reported 200 boarding schools would be equipped with CCTVs using a RM3 million allocation.

That step aims to enhance student safety, particularly in dormitories.
