The Ministry of Education will hold a special meeting next week to review WFH and PdPR mechanisms, ensuring any implementation aligns with government savings objectives

KOTA BHARU: The Ministry of Education (MOE) will hold a special meeting next week to review the implementation of Work From Home (WFH) and Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) mechanisms.

Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad said the meeting, to be chaired by Minister Fadhlina Sidek, aims to ensure the measures achieve the government’s savings objectives.

“We will examine the recommendation from various angles to ensure an effective rollout,” he told reporters after an MOE programme at Pengkalan Chepa Vocational College.

He cautioned that immediate action without thorough consideration may not achieve the intended savings goals.

“For example, if we aim to reduce electricity use in office buildings but a few employees continue to work in each sector, the expected savings will not be achieved,” Mohd Azam explained.

Regarding preparedness, he said the MOE is ready to implement all government policies and decisions as directed.

The ministry will leverage its experience with WFH during the COVID-19 pandemic to develop a more robust strategy.

When asked if the savings policy would include schools and students, he said further study is required.

“We will examine whether there is a rationale to involve schools in implementing the PdPR,” he said.

He added the MOE will review this carefully to ensure any decision is in the best interest of children.

The review follows the Prime Minister’s announcement of savings measures in response to global oil price increases.

Meanwhile, Mohd Azam said the MOE is conducting an ongoing awareness campaign on the Malaysia Education Plan (RPM) 2026-2035.

This initiative is being implemented through ‘Program Tekad’, a special feature in this year’s nationwide MOE Ramadan Jaulah series.

He added that the RPM 2026-2035 is a crucial national policy for the next 10 years, not just an ordinary educational initiative.
