Card scanner malfunction at MRT Kajang Line stations sparks long queues at TRX during peak hour before service returns to normal
MALAYSIAN train commuters voiced frustration after another bout of peak-hour chaos struck MRT Kajang Line stations this morning.
Passengers took to Threads to vent their anger when their morning commute was disrupted by a card scanner malfunction that caused congestion at several stations.
Kyrel Rosli said passengers were instructed to proceed to the counter to tap their cards and exit manually as the turnstiles were not functioning.
Photos he shared showed long queues forming at the Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) station during the busy morning rush. “What’s happening like this during peak hours?” he wrote.

Another user, @izzazhrddin, said she was fortunate to avoid the queue because she uses the My50 unlimited travel pass.
“But I got off at Pusat Bandar Damansara. Those with a My50 pass could exit straight away, while those without it had to queue to pay,” she said.
One commuter noted that he might have been among the first to experience the malfunction, which reportedly occurred as early as 5.50am.
Rapid KL later addressed the issue on its Facebook page, informing passengers that they could make payment at the exit station and advising them to proceed to the counter for assistance from station staff.
In a subsequent update, the operator announced that the technical issue had been resolved.
“Please be informed that the automatic barrier gates at all stations have been repaired and are now operating normally,” it said.
Responding to queries from passengers who had exited without manually checking out, Rapid KL said commuters would still need to go to the counter to have their cards checked, where staff would provide the necessary assistance.
