Penang nasi kerabu stall owner displays her IC to show she’s from Kelantan, leaving netizens laughing at her creative marketing
SINCE foodies chase the “original” tastes, a Nasi Kerabu vendor in Batu Kawan, Penang, took a bold step to prove her authenticity, leaving netizens both shocked and amused.
Amir Khuzairi shared pictures of the roadside stall, where the vendor displayed a large copy of her identification card (IC) with her address, showing that she is genuinely from Bachok, Kelantan.
It’s a quirky way to assure customers that her food is truly “original Kelantanese.”
Netizens praised the move as creative marketing to attract more customers. @kasmaaaa joked, wondering how the printing shop staff reacted to such a unique banner order.
Fakhruddin added that Gen Z could never pull this off, as most are insecure about their IC photos.
“I mean, I’ll at least stop by to buy it since the auntie didn’t use an AI-generated photo,” said Aina.
Netizens also said that a nasi kerabu set priced at RM10 is considered cheap, and those not from Penang are unlucky for missing out.
Zeety Azura shared a similar sentiment from a Ramadan Bazaar experience. Her husband, a Kelantanese, met a seller who was also from Kelantan.
“He asked in Kelantanese dialect, ‘Kak onde ii guano kiro?’ (‘Sister, how much do you think these are?’) and she replied, ‘Empat biji seriya, dik’ (‘Four for RM1, brother’).”
Later, another customer asked the price in standard Malay, and the seller said four for RM2, which left Zeety stunned. She noted that sometimes the “homeboy” sentiment even works for discounted prices.
