A new substation in Kampung Takis, Papar, will ensure a stable electricity supply for residents, addressing long-standing voltage issues.

PAPAR: A new electrical substation in Kampung Takis is set to be fully operational by early April. The facility will provide residents with a more stable electricity supply.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said the project was completed on Feb 26. It is currently in the phase of transferring the load from the original substation.

The Papar MP stated the construction addressed long-standing complaints from residents. They had faced voltage drops below the nominal level of 216V for a considerable time.

“This situation has been affecting the smooth use of daily electricity,” Armizan said. He added it even caused equipment damage and the risk of short circuits, disrupting daily activities.

He made these remarks in a statement after inspecting the project. The inspection preceded his attendance at an Iftar event at Masjid As Sobirin.

Armizan also highlighted that Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) completed four new substation projects in the parliamentary area last year. These were in Kampung Beringgis, Kampung Sekayan, Kampung Kawakahan, and Kampung Sagang.

He said these projects were implemented to address significant supply disruption issues. He urged residents facing similar problems to channel official complaints to SESB or the Papar Parliamentary Office.

This would enable further action to be taken to resolve their electricity supply concerns.
