Pahang Forestry Department clarifies viral video shows legal land clearing for an approved agricultural project, not illegal logging in Bentong
KUANTAN: The Pahang Forestry Department has strongly denied allegations of illegal logging in Bentong, which were based on a viral social media video.
In a statement, the department clarified that the tree-felling activity depicted was on private land outside the Permanent Reserved Forest area.
“The tree-felling works at the location were part of the site preparation process for a project that had been legally approved and not illegal logging activities as alleged,” the statement said.
The department and state government view the matter seriously due to its impact on forest management sustainability and public perception of conservation.
The involved area consists of five private lots approved for an agricultural development project.
This project is a collaboration with the Rubber Industry Smallholders Development Authority to develop land for the benefit of landowners and the local agricultural sector.
JPNP remains committed to ensuring all development complies with rules and laws while preserving environmental sustainability.
“The public is advised not to speculate or spread unverified information,” the department urged.
Such actions can cause misunderstanding and unease within the community, according to the statement.
JPNP welcomes official information from the public and will take firm action against any violations of state forestry laws.
