Palestinian leadership considers all options, including international courts, to counter Israel’s move to register West Bank land as state property.

RAMALLAH/ISTANBUL: The Palestinian leadership is considering all options to prevent the Israeli annexation of Palestinian lands.

Deputy Foreign Minister Omar Awadallah confirmed the strategy includes potential recourse to international courts.

“All options are open, including resorting to international courts, to protect Palestinian land from Israeli confiscation and annexation,” Awadallah told Anadolu.

He stated the leadership is mobilising at Arab, Islamic and international levels to confront Israel’s decision.

The Israeli government approved a proposal on Sunday allowing the seizure of Palestinian land in the West Bank.

The move involves registering the territory as “state property,” a first since Israel’s occupation began in 1967.

According to Israeli Channel 7, the measure opens previously frozen land registration procedures.

It also cancels a Jordanian-era law banning land sales and discloses decades-old confidential land records.

Awadallah firmly rejected any Israeli claim to sovereignty over the occupied territories.

“Israel has no sovereignty over the occupied Palestinian territory,” he said.

“The only sovereignty belongs to the State of Palestine.”

Palestinians view these measures as a prelude to formal annexation of the West Bank.

They argue such actions would fundamentally undermine the UN-endorsed two-state solution framework.

The International Court of Justice issued a landmark opinion in July 2024.

It declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the evacuation of all West Bank and East Jerusalem settlements.
