
A PAS lawmaker will be appointed as the new opposition leader before the end of this month, Perikatan Nasional has confirmed
KUALA LUMPUR: A PAS Member of Parliament will be named the new opposition leader before the end of March.
Perikatan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar confirmed the decision was made at the coalition’s Supreme Council meeting.
The Terengganu Menteri Besar said the main agenda was the election and appointment of PN party officers under the coalition’s constitution.
“The appointment of the PN State Liaison Committee chairmen has been deferred to the next meeting,” he said in a Facebook post.
He added this would follow his working visits to all states after the Aidilfitri celebrations.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the upcoming Melaka State Election.
The current opposition leader is Larut MP and former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
Ahmad Samsuri, who is also PAS vice-president, did not name the incoming PAS MP for the role.
The coalition also unveiled its new leadership lineup following the meeting.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, Punithan Paramsiven and Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man were appointed deputy chairmen.
Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan was named secretary-general, with three deputies: Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Wong Chia Zhen and Datuk Sivakumar Krishnan.
Other key appointments include Tan Sri Annuar Musa as information chief and Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin as election director-general.
Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor was appointed treasurer general.
Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi and Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamuddeen were named Wanita chief and Youth chief, respectively.
