Penang JPJ intensifies advocacy and enforcement for Ops Aidilfitri, aiming for a 10% reduction in accidents and a 75% driver perception of being caught.
BATU KAWAN: The Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) is intensifying its advocacy and enforcement for Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 with a target of reducing road accidents by 10%.
State JPJ director Zulkifly Ismail said increased face-to-face engagements aim to boost the Perception of Being Caught (POBC) among motorists to 75%.
“When we are consistently on the ground and engaging with motorists, they become more aware of JPJ’s presence and tend to drive more cautiously,” he said at a road safety programme.
Enforcement is focused on accident-prone locations through patrols and monitoring at designated Points of Duty along hotspot routes.
Eight key accident zones have been identified across Seberang Perai and on the island, including sections of the North-South Expressway and Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway.
A total of 245 personnel have been deployed for the operation, rotating to ensure a continuous JPJ presence.
Ops HRA 2026 runs from March 13 to 29, with full enforcement commencing on March 16 following a pre-operation phase for bus depot inspections.
Zulkifly said JPJ is also targeting 100% preliminary inspections of express buses to ensure roadworthiness for the festive travel period.
