Penang Port provides free ferry travel for Malaysians on the first two days of Raya and free museum entry for children to ease congestion and celebrate.
GEORGE TOWN: Ferry services in Penang will be free for all Malaysians on the first two days of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. The complimentary travel applies to routes from the Sultan Abdul Halim Terminal (PSAH) and the Raja Tun Uda Terminal (PRTU).
Penang Port Commission (SPPP) chairman Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin said the initiative aims to facilitate public travel during the festive season. “This free ferry service is not only aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Penang, but it is also to encourage the use of more sustainable and efficient public transportation,” he stated.
The free service is a joint effort by SPPP and Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB). It is expected to be in effect when Hari Raya is celebrated.
In a related community programme, SPPP is sponsoring free entry to the Penang Ferry Museum for Malaysian children. The “Kids Go Free|Aidilfitri Special” campaign allows children aged 12 and below free admission from March 23 to 25.
Yeoh said this initiative complements efforts to strengthen the museum’s role as a learning centre. The programme also marks the 70th anniversary celebration of SPPP this year.
