Penang PH is prioritising internal capacity and grassroots efforts to boost public support ahead of the next general election, while viewing UMNO’s Rumah Bangsa initiative as an external matter.

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) is concentrating on intensifying its party machinery and bolstering public support in preparation for the next general election, with state chairman Chow Kon Yeow stating the coalition does not view UMNO’s Rumah Bangsa initiative as affecting its current focus.

Chow, who is also Penang Chief Minister, said the coalition is now prioritising its responsibilities and work for the people while strengthening its internal capacity.

“At this stage it is better for us to focus on our work, as what happens outside (PH) is beyond our control,” he told reporters after attending a Chinese New Year function and International Women’s Day celebration.

He added that PH will “take care of our own house, our support and our work” by ensuring public backing for the coalition continues to grow.

Chow further stated that PH’s grassroots efforts will be intensified in line with current political developments, which are seen to be gaining momentum.

The remarks follow UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s announcement last Friday that the party, under its Rumah Bangsa initiative, had opened its doors widely to any former members who had been expelled or suspended to return unconditionally.
