Over 10,000 people from diverse communities celebrated Chinese New Year at Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s open house, highlighting the state’s social harmony.

GEORGE TOWN: A wave of festive cheer swept through Setia SPICE Arena as more than 10,000 people of all races and backgrounds gathered for the Chinese New Year open house hosted by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Chow hailed the event as a resounding success, saying the strong turnout of Malays, Chinese, Indians and foreign tourists reflected the harmony underpinning social stability in the state.

“I hope Penang can continue to serve as a model in promoting unity, harmony and the well-being of its people,” he told reporters.

Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib and his wife Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah joined state leaders at the event, which also welcomed diplomatic representatives and community leaders.

Thousands of guests enjoyed traditional dishes alongside lion dances and performances by local artistes, bringing the celebrations to life.

A highlight of the event was the Yee Sang tossing ceremony, which symbolised prosperity and well-being for all in Penang for 2026.
