Perak police report over RM300,000 lost in seven cases where scammers tricked bakeries with fake bulk orders for kuih and other food items.

IPOH: Police in Perak have recorded seven reports of fraud involving fake orders for kuih and food, with total losses exceeding RM300,000.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Noordin explained that the scammers’ method begins with placing a substantial initial order with a bakery or catering business.

He stated that the suspects would subsequently request additional items that the victim’s business does not typically produce.

“The suspects would then provide a telephone number supposedly of another operator who could supply the requested items, and ask the earlier business operator to contact that number,” he said.

Noor Hisam added that when victims contacted the provided number, the person would agree to supply the items but demand an upfront payment.

He revealed that after making the payment, the business operators found the individuals could no longer be contacted and realised they had been deceived.

The police chief disclosed these details during a media conference following the launch of Ops Selamat 26 for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026 celebration at the Gopeng Rural Transformation Centre.
