Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim visits Jakarta for talks on West Asia geopolitics and to strengthen Malaysia-Indonesia bilateral ties.

JAKARTA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Jakarta on Friday afternoon for a special visit.

He is scheduled to meet Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Istana Merdeka in Central Jakarta.

Discussions between the two leaders are expected to focus on geopolitical developments in West Asia.

This includes the situations in Palestine and Iran, and their implications for regional and global stability.

The meeting will also underscore the importance of strengthening ASEAN’s role as a united bloc.

Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry said ASEAN must act collectively to safeguard regional peace and economic resilience.

Both leaders are also expected to streamline bilateral cooperation ahead of a key annual consultation.

Malaysia is set to host the 14th Malaysia-Indonesia Annual Consultation later this year.

This is Anwar’s first trip to Jakarta this year at the invitation of President Prabowo.

The visit follows a phone conversation between the two leaders on March 23.

Anwar’s aircraft landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta at 3.45 pm local time.

He was received by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and senior diplomats from both nations.

The Prime Minister was also greeted by a guard of honour mounted by the Presidential Security Forces.
