Penang police confirm arrest of a man in his 20s for allegedly threatening independent preacher Zamri Vinoth, with investigation ongoing
GEORGE TOWN: Police have confirmed the arrest of an individual allegedly linked to an incident involving threats against independent preacher Zamri Vinoth.
Penang Police Chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said the arrest of the male suspect, aged in his 20s, was made in the Bukit Mertajam area early this morning.
He stated that police received a report regarding the incident from Zamri at the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) District Police Headquarters.
“Police confirm receiving a report from Zamri and one arrest was made early this morning. The suspect is detained to assist investigation under Section 506 and Section 427 of the Penal Code,” he said when contacted.
Azizee added that further investigation is ongoing to trace other individuals involved in the incident.
Earlier, Zamri uploaded a 19-second video on Facebook showing his vehicle being approached by a motorcycle ridden by two men before several other men also came near.
The vehicle was then seen colliding with the motorcycle.
The action is believed to be related to the preacher’s vocal stance on an issue involving a small house of worship near a hospital in the state.
