MELAKA: Police are actively tracking down a man suspected of brutally assaulting his pregnant wife at a karaoke centre in Kota Shahbandar.
Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said officers were alerted early yesterday after the 20-year-old victim’s mother reported her daughter missing, having found the back door of their house forcibly opened.
The mother later reviewed CCTV footage from the karaoke centre which allegedly showed the victim’s 22-year-old husband assaulting her daughter.
Preliminary investigations found the victim was rushed by ambulance to Melaka Hospital where she was treated in the red zone for soft tissue injuries to her head and right cheek.
Dzulkhairi added that the viral CCTV footage depicted the suspect hitting, slapping, and pulling the victim’s hair before ramming her head with a motorcycle as she lay on the floor.
The victim was initially taken home by her mother but is now believed to have left with her two-year-old son and the suspect.
The complainant has been unable to contact the victim and is deeply concerned for the safety of both the woman and her child.
No arrests have been made so far in the case, which is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
