Inspector-General of Police confirms raids on businessman’s premises as part of a corporate manipulation investigation linked to the MACC.

PUTRAJAYA: The Royal Malaysian Police has confirmed conducting inspections at several premises belonging to a businessman. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail stated the investigation follows allegations of corporate manipulation linked to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

He said the investigation is being handled by the Bukit Aman Anti-Money Laundering Special Task Force. “We have taken action at several premises linked to the individual in question, the matter is still under investigation,” Khalid told a press conference.

He added that any developments would be announced at a future press conference. Media reports stated that police and the Securities Commission raided premises in Sungai Long and Kemensah, Selangor.

Items seized included two cars, luxury watches, jewellery, and cash in multiple currencies. Documents believed related to the investigation were also confiscated.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil previously said the Cabinet instructed several agencies to continue detailed probes. He stated appropriate legal action would be taken, including seizing proceeds with suspected criminal elements.

The investigation follows a Bloomberg article published on February 11. The article detailed allegations that businessmen collaborated with MACC officers to pressure corporate figures in a takeover case.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, named in the report, has vehemently denied the allegations. Azam has filed a RM100 million lawsuit against Bloomberg for damages.
