Higher Education Minister says each public university can decide on online teaching measures as hot weather persists, with no complaints received so far.

KUALA NERUS: Public institutions of higher learning have been granted autonomy to decide on measures to tackle the ongoing hot weather, including conducting online teaching and learning sessions.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir stated that while no formal complaints have been received from universities, the ministry is adopting a flexible approach.

He explained that the decision is delegated because the situation varies across different campuses, allowing each administration to take appropriate steps.

Zambry cited precedents such as the COVID-19 pandemic and flooding seasons, where universities previously implemented online learning for non-physical courses.

The minister made these remarks after attending a gathering with students at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin here today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast that the current hot and dry spell will continue until the start of the Southwest Monsoon in June.
