YADIM calls for calm and legal process following viral Quran incident, urging public to avoid vigilantism and inflammatory social media posts.
PUTRAJAYA: Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (YADIM) has urged the public to place full trust in the police investigating the viral case of an individual stepping on the Quran.
YADIM president Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom said the foundation appreciated the swift and thorough action taken by the government and authorities to address the incident in accordance with established rules.
He called on the public to respect the legal process and refrain from taking matters into their own hands, which could worsen the situation or disrupt the investigation.
“We should not act recklessly based on our impulses and desires,” he said during an appearance on Bernama Radio.
Hasan described the act of stepping on the Quran as extreme and said maximum action should be taken against the perpetrator as a lesson to the public.
He stated that the act could be described as an insult to other religions, whereas mutual respect for faiths should be upheld.
The president also advised the public against posting comments on social media that could aggravate the situation, urging instead for the preservation of harmony in the multiracial society.
He expressed hope that citizens would remain calm and patient, as the case was being handled properly by the government.
“There is no need for us to issue threats or act beyond the bounds of the law,” he added.
A 21-year-old Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah student was arrested on February 25 for allegedly insulting Islam by uploading the photo.
Kuantan district police chief ACP Ashari Abu Samah confirmed the suspect’s remand had been extended until March 3 to complete the investigation.
