Rafizi Ramli warns protests will escalate unless MACC chief Azam Baki is suspended and investigated independently

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Rafizi Ramli today warned that protests will continue and escalate if the government does not suspend Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Tan Sri Azam Baki and conduct a transparent, independent investigation.

“I leave it to Bersih and other NGOs.

“If the government continues to act as it is now—refusing to suspend Azam Baki and refusing an independent investigation—we have no choice but to take to the streets repeatedly until Azam Baki steps down,” Rafizi said.

Speaking at the “Tangkap Azam Baki” rally, the Pandan MP stressed that the issue goes beyond politics and concerns the public interest.

“This is about the people. We have seen this before with 1MDB, and now with Azam Baki.

“If these allegations are true, who will investigate when Azam Baki himself is in charge?” he asked.

Rafizi also highlighted systemic flaws, warning that even ordinary citizens are not protected.

“Now we know the system does not guarantee protection for ordinary people.

“And even those affected who are wealthy, successful, or influential can still be dragged into cases, falsely charged, and pressured,” he said.

While it is unclear whether this will become a weekly protest series, Rafizi said MPs must be mobilised and public pressure kept strong.

“We have committed that as long as it concerns Azam Baki, we will give full support in Parliament.

“But if I were advising Anwar Ibrahim, I would say: do not downplay issues that affect everyone.”
