Rapid Rail extends morning and evening peak-hour services throughout Ramadan to accommodate changing passenger patterns for breaking fast

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid Rail has extended its peak-hour service periods for the entire month of Ramadan.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the adjustment accommodates changes in passenger travel patterns during the fasting month.

Morning peak hours are now from 6.30 am to 9.30 am, extended from the usual 7 am start.

Evening peak hours have been lengthened to run from 4 pm to 8 pm, compared to 5 pm to 7.30 pm previously.

Loke said this ensures smooth operations and passenger comfort for earlier return trips to prepare for breaking fast.

He was responding to a question from Syahredzan Johan in the Dewan Rakyat.

On preparedness for service disruptions, Loke said predictive and preventive maintenance is practised continuously.

“However, we are now practising predictive and preventive maintenance, which is to ensure that regular maintenance of our systems, as well as our trains, is carried out continuously, to reduce the likelihood of service disruptions,” he said.

He added that mitigation measures include deploying technical staff on trains and station management training.

Responding to another question, Loke noted a significant decline in rail service disruption incidents since 2022.

“We have set a KPI whereby if a train does not operate for more than five minutes, it is considered a disruption,” he said.

He stated that the Ministry of Transport and Prasarana will continue improving communication and passenger management.

The goal is to ensure more efficient rail services that earn public confidence.
