RAUB: Two siblings orphaned by a fatal house fire are eligible to receive a monthly survivor’s pension from the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso).
Ruby Adalia Balqis Mohd Alawi (pix), 19, and her brother Ahmad Balia Murqam Mohd Alawi, 15, have already received a one-off funeral management benefit of RM3,000.
Their late father, Mohd Alawi Muhammad, was among five family members who perished in the house fire in Kampung Pamah Kulat, Ulu Dong on Feb 26.

Perkeso group chief executive officer Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed confirmed the children’s monthly pension of RM373.20 has been approved and will be credited soon.
He said records showed the contribution status of their late father was still active at the time of the tragedy.
“The Perkeso Prihatin Squad, which was alerted to the tragic news, visited the family on the day of the incident to expedite checks and the processing of benefits,” Mohammed Azman said in a statement.
The late Mohd Alawi had contributed to the LINDUNG Pekerja scheme through employment with 11 different employers since 1990.
Further intervention measures have been taken by registering the surviving children under Perkeso’s Prihatin Keluarga Angkat Programme (PROTEK).
This programme ensures their welfare, education and social needs continue to be safeguarded.
Perkeso will provide educational support to Ruby Adalia, who is currently pursuing her studies at Pahang Matriculation College.
For her younger brother Ahmad Balia, who is studying at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dong, Perkeso will provide financial assistance for school supplies.
The fire claimed the lives of five family members, including the children’s mother Zaleha Adam @ Ibrahim, 44, and three sisters aged 17, 14 and 10.
