UEFA fines Real Madrid and orders partial stadium closure after a fan performed a Nazi salute during a Champions League match against Benfica.

REAL Madrid have been fined 15,000 euros by UEFA after a fan performed a Nazi salute during a Champions League match.

European football’s governing body announced the sanction on Friday following the incident at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium last week.

The club said it had identified and immediately expelled the member involved. Real Madrid also requested its disciplinary committee to begin expulsion proceedings.

UEFA ordered a partial closure of the stadium as part of the punishment. The sanction involves 500 adjacent seats in the lower south stand for one game.

However, this stadium closure penalty is suspended for one year. The fine relates to a breach of UEFA’s disciplinary regulations.

The incident occurred during Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Benfica. The win secured a 3-1 aggregate triumph and a place in the last 16.

Real Madrid will face Manchester City in the next round of the competition. The club strongly condemned the fan’s gesture in an official statement.
