Real Madrid’s Rodrygo suffers ACL rupture, ending his season and World Cup dream with Brazil this summer.
REAL Madrid winger Rodrygo Goes has been ruled out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a severe knee injury.
The club confirmed on Tuesday that tests revealed a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and a torn lateral meniscus in his right leg.
The 25-year-old Brazilian sustained the injury during a substitute appearance in Monday’s 1-0 La Liga defeat to Getafe.
He had only recently returned from a month-long absence due to tendonitis.
Rodrygo expressed his devastation on social media, calling it “one of the worst days of my life”.
“I’m out for the rest of the season with my club and out of the World Cup with my country, a dream which everyone knows how much it means to me,” he wrote on Instagram.
His absence is a major blow for Brazil, managed by his former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti.
The Selecao are aiming for a record-extending sixth World Cup title this summer in the United States.
Real Madrid will also be significantly weakened, particularly with Kylian Mbappe also sidelined by a knee sprain.
Coach Alvaro Arbeloa has just three fit attackers available for next week’s Champions League last-16 clash against Manchester City.
