Russia will implement a detailed roadmap to develop high-performance computing and supercomputer infrastructure, aiming to strengthen its technological capabilities and competitiveness.

MOSCOW: The Russian government announced it will implement a comprehensive roadmap to develop high-performance computing and supercomputer infrastructure, aiming to strengthen the country’s technological capabilities and competitiveness in key sectors.

Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order endorsing the plan, according to a government statement published on its official website.

Under the roadmap, Russia will take measures in the coming years to support the development of high-performance computing systems, artificial intelligence algorithms, grid technologies and supercomputer infrastructure.

The plan includes establishing standards for shared supercomputer centres and defining procedures for providing researchers and key industrial organisations with access to these facilities.

It also outlines prospects for the further development and modernisation of this critical infrastructure.

As part of the initiative, Russia plans to develop a strategy and operating rules for the next-generation National Research Computer Network, which already connects hundreds of leading universities and scientific institutions.

This expanded network is expected to facilitate research work, particularly projects requiring the processing and transmission of large volumes of data.

The roadmap also involves efforts to develop and deploy domestic algorithms, methods and software for supercomputer computing across various sectors of the Russian economy.
