Civil Defence Force evacuates nine STPM repeat candidates in Paitan, enabling them to continue their studies despite severe flooding in Sabah.

KOTA KINABALU: Nine Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) 2025 repeat candidates were evacuated from flood-hit areas in Paitan by the Civil Defence Force to ensure they could continue attending school.

The Paitan District Civil Defence Office (PDPA) stated that the operation to transport the students to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Salaping in Kota Marudu was necessary as rising floodwaters had cut off main access routes from their homes.

“This operation has a significant impact on the students as it helps prevent them from missing out on lessons and enables them to continue preparing for STPM,” the PDPA said in a statement.

It added that the effort provided safety and peace of mind for students and parents while proving the vital role of rescue agencies in ensuring educational continuity during natural disasters.

The evacuation proceeded smoothly due to coordinated efforts by personnel who prioritised the safety and welfare of the students throughout the process.

Flood victim numbers in Sabah had decreased to 3,266 people from 1,401 families by 4 pm, down from 5,141 people from 2,160 families recorded earlier in the day at 8 am.
