KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Mustapha Sakmud has been appointed as the new Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman.
The Sabah PKR State Leadership Council chairman confirmed the appointment, which was decided during a meeting of Sabah PH component party leaders.
The meeting was held to fill the vacancy left after the United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) exited the coalition in November last year.
Other appointments included Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe as deputy chairman and Abdul Razak Jamil as secretary.
Datuk Chan Fong Hin was appointed treasurer, with Zaidi Jatil as youth chief and Datuk Jannie Lasimbang as Sabah PH Women chief.
“After discussion, the meeting agreed to appoint me as the new Sabah PH chairman to fill the vacant position,” Mustapha told reporters.
The post was previously held by UPKO president Datuk Ewon Benedick before the party’s departure from the coalition.
Mustapha, who is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak), said the meeting also discussed Sabah PH’s future direction.
He stated the coalition would focus on issues related to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“We will raise important matters concerning MA63, particularly the demand for 40% of Sabah’s revenue,” he said.
