Sarawak RTD files police and MCMC reports after fake claims of driving licence shortcuts circulate on social media.

KUCHING: The Sarawak Road Transport Department (RTD) has moved decisively against claims circulating on social media suggesting that driving licences in the state can be obtained through backdoor arrangements — including so-called “special offers” and shortcuts that bypass the standard testing process.

In a statement, the department categorically dismissed such claims as false and confirmed that it has lodged reports with both the Royal Malaysia Police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to address the spread of the misinformation.

The Sarawak RTD reminded the public that the issuance of a driving licence is governed by strict legal procedures that admit no exceptions or special arrangements. All applicants are required to complete mandatory practical driving lessons and sit for written, oral, and driving assessments conducted only by qualified examiners officially appointed by the department. There are no exemptions, and no third party is authorised to facilitate the process outside of these established channels.

“The claims circulating on certain social media platforms that Sarawak RTD is offering special offers and shortcuts without tests to obtain a driving licence are fake information,” the department stated.

The RTD further urged any member of the public in Sarawak who is approached by individuals making such claims to lodge a report immediately — either at the nearest RTD office or at a police station — as the department considers these to be potential scams targeting unsuspecting applicants.

A warning was also extended to those who may be knowingly spreading the false information online, whether on social media platforms or within private messaging groups. The department called on the public to stop circulating such content to prevent further confusion and to protect potential victims from being defrauded.

The Sarawak RTD has previously dealt with similar incidents, including a case in 2025 where a TikTok video falsely claimed that driving licences could be obtained without going through proper legal procedures — with the individual behind the content having never been authorised, approved, or recognised by the department in any official capacity.

The latest action signals that the department continues to take a firm stance against such attempts to undermine the integrity of the public licensing system.

Members of the public with information or complaints may submit them through the RTD’s official complaint portal at jpj.spab.gov.my.
