Young Sarawak teacher decorates Year 3 classroom for six students, creating a cozy and inspiring learning environment
TEACHERS play a vital role in students’ lives, far beyond just educating. Some set high standards for their peers, reminding everyone that teaching is not merely a job, but a responsibility.
Harith Suffian, a young teacher, shared on Threads how he personally decorated his Year 3 classroom at SK Sungai Laong in Miri, a rural school in Sarawak with only six students.
Despite the small class size, Harith went all out to create a cheerful and calming environment using a cool blue theme. He hung a welcome banner featuring the class group photo with himself, displayed the Sarawak state flag and the Jalur Gemilang, and added motivational quotes on the walls.
The room was neat and cosy, with curtains, clothed tables, subject corners, full mat flooring, and small mock flower pots made from chenille stems. “I chose blue because it feels soothing and calming,” he explained.
He also acknowledged the challenges of working in an older building. “The building is quite old, so some parts can’t really be renovated, but we’re still trying to make it look nice,” he added.
Netizens were impressed by his effort to make the classroom a happy and inspiring space. “Thank you for your contribution! Keep up the good work,” commented Will Chester.
One user even assumed a female teacher had done the decorations. “Thanks sis! At least I can get a little idea of how men decorate,” Harith replied with humour.
In earlier posts, he shared that he also holds multiple roles at the school, including Year 3 class teacher, Head of the History Panel, Literacy Competency Assessment Committee (PKL), and Handball Club coach.
“By the way, my school has fewer students (SKM B), so there are already plenty of positions available,” he noted.
Harith’s creativity and dedication highlight how teachers can turn even small rural classrooms into inspiring and enjoyable learning spaces.
