Saudi Arabia intercepted ballistic missiles and drones targeting Riyadh as Iran continues retaliatory strikes against Gulf states.
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence reported that three ballistic missiles targeted the capital area.
A ministry spokesperson stated on social media that one missile was intercepted while the other two fell in an uninhabited area.
The Saudi Civil Defence issued a brief warning early Sunday morning before cancelling it seven minutes later. Officials determined the immediate danger had passed.
The defence ministry also confirmed that five drones were intercepted since midnight.
Iran has sustained retaliatory attacks on Saudi Arabia and neighbouring Gulf nations. These strikes are a response to US-Israeli military actions that ignited a regional war late last month.
Some attacks have targeted energy facilities in the oil-rich region. This has heightened fears of a potential global energy supply shock.
