RIYADH: Saudi Arabia announced it intercepted a ballistic missile fired at a strategic air base housing US military personnel.
The defence ministry stated the missile, launched towards Prince Sultan Air Base southeast of Riyadh, was “intercepted and destroyed”.
In a separate incident, a drone attack targeting the Shaybah oil field near the Emirati border was also thwarted.
The official Saudi Press Agency reported that six drones were “intercepted and destroyed” in the attempted assault.
These incidents are part of a series of attacks since the conflict began with US-Israeli strikes against Iran.
Iran has launched missile and drone attacks at Israel and Gulf states since February 28.
Earlier this week, Saudi Arabia reported at least two drone attacks targeting the Ras Tanura refinery in its eastern region.
