Additional security measures are in place at Malaysia’s entry points after a senior border agency commander was shot at in Bukit Kayu Hitam.

PUTRAJAYA: Additional security measures have been activated at the country’s entry points following a shooting incident involving a senior border commander.

The Home Minister, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (pic), confirmed the measures were implemented immediately after the early morning attack on SAC Mohd Nasaruddin Mohd Nasir.

He stated the government views the incident seriously but assured that security at national entry points remains under control.

“I am grateful he is safe. The incident is being thoroughly investigated by the Royal Malaysia Police,” Saifuddin said in a statement.

He warned that firm action would be taken against those involved and stressed the government would not compromise with any threat to national security.

“Right now, I call on all parties not to speculate and to allow the authorities to conduct a professional investigation,” he added.

The incident occurred at 5.40 am on the slip road to Masjid Al-Muhajirin, about one kilometre from the Malaysia-Thailand border.

Mohd Nasaruddin, the commander of the Bukit Kayu Hitam Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA), was on his way to perform Subuh prayers.

Two men on a motorcycle shot at the Proton X70 he was driving, but the commander emerged unhurt from the attack.
