Despite cancellations and regional tensions, some Malaysian pilgrims proceed with umrah, trusting in safety assessments and divine protection.

PETALING JAYA: Some Malaysian pilgrims at Kuala Lumpur International Airport are proceeding with their umrah journeys despite regional tensions and flight disruptions.

Mutawif Ustaz Hussain Jamaluddin, leading a group of 20 pilgrims, stated his group remained firm in their intention to worship despite reports of international flights being turned back, according to New Straits Times.

“We are aware of the situation and are waiting for instructions from Saudi authorities and the airline, and so far our flight has not been cancelled and we have been allowed to check in,” he was quoted as saying.

He acknowledged some worry but advised his group to pray and leave the rest to Allah, as their primary intention was for ibadah.

Hussain confirmed the group would abide by any directive from the airline or aviation authorities including Malaysia’s Civil Aviation Authority, accepting any decision made for their safety.

He noted that earlier flights, including a Saudi Airlines service arriving around 2am, had landed safely, which provided some reassurance to proceed while authorities allowed it.

Aside from Saudi-bound services, other major carriers including an Emirates flight to Dubai were also cancelled earlier in the day.

The temporary closures of parts of Middle Eastern airspace, triggered by regional tensions, have disrupted international flight operations affecting travellers across the region as authorities continue monitoring developments.
