A six-year-old girl was killed after being hit by an SUV while riding her bicycle in Manir, Kuala Terengganu, on Wednesday afternoon.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A six-year-old girl died after being struck by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Manir on Wednesday afternoon.

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the incident occurred along Jalan Perumahan Batu Hampar.

Police received a report at 4.12pm regarding a collision between a Toyota Harrier and a bicycle.

The victim, Nur Adelia Qistina Mohd Shukri, sustained severe head injuries in the crash.

She died while receiving treatment at the Manir health clinic.

“Preliminary investigations revealed the crash happened when the SUV driver, who was driving straight from their house at Batu Hampar housing estate to the Batu Hampar Ramadan Bazaar, hit the bicyclist who came out from the right junction suddenly,” Azli said in a statement.

He added that due to the close distance, the woman driver was unable to avoid the bicycle.

The vehicle struck the front left side of the bicycle.

The girl’s body was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital for further action.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
