A 44-year-old Malaysian female soldier was sentenced to 7 years in jail for sexually abusing her 8-year-old son in Melaka.
PETALING JAYA: A 44-year-old female military personnel has been handed a seven-year prison sentence after admitting to sexually abusing her young son, in a case that has drawn public attention to child safety within family settings.
The Ayer Keroh Sessions Court in Melaka handed down the ruling after the accused entered a guilty plea. Presiding judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldi imposed the sentence following the admission.
The abuse was reported to have occurred at a residential property in Taman Peruna, Sungai Udang, within the Melaka Tengah district, late in the evening in December 2024. The victim was eight years old at the time of the incident.
The accused was prosecuted under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, in conjunction with Section 16(1) of the same legislation. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Asnini Kamarudin represented the prosecution, while the accused had no legal representation.
During mitigation, the single mother appealed for leniency, citing her responsibility to care for her three children upon release. The court, however, maintained the sentence, which was backdated to commence from March 3, 2024 — the date of her arrest.
