Singapore’s PM Lawrence Wong calls for unity as Chinese New Year and Ramadan celebrations overlap, highlighting multicultural harmony and family support measures.

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has called on all Singaporeans to uphold the nation’s values of harmony during the upcoming festive period.

This year’s Chinese New Year celebration is especially meaningful as it coincides with the start of Ramadan for the Muslim community.

“The coming together of these occasions reminds us of the beauty of multicultural Singapore,” Wong said in his Chinese New Year video message.

He stated that this harmony was not achieved by chance but built over generations through mutual respect, trust, and understanding.

Chinese New Year falls on Feb 17, while Muslims will begin fasting on Feb 19.

Wong also highlighted government efforts to provide families with greater assurance through initiatives in Budget 2026.

He outlined steps including CDC vouchers for every household, additional credits for every child, and more retirement support for seniors.

“When we care for our families, we strengthen the bonds that hold our society together,” he added.

The Prime Minister urged Singaporeans to extend this same care and spirit to their wider communities.
