Home Minister urges society to support, not stigmatise, former inmates, emphasising rehabilitation and reintegration through skills training and job opportunities.

NILAI: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has urged society and families to stop stigmatising Persons Under Supervision (ODS) and instead support their reintegration.

He said individuals who have completed their sentences should not face a “second prison” of cynicism and insults.

“We want to shift the focus from punishment to full rehabilitation,” Saifuddin said at a programme at the Mantin Inmate Reintegration Centre (PRP).

He stated that community-based rehabilitation makes the reintegration process faster and more effective.

The minister encouraged welcoming those who strive to improve themselves through skills programmes.

He highlighted that the Mantin PRP symbolises a fresh start for former inmates by equipping them with vocational skills.

Currently, 500 ODS at the centre are undergoing training, including spiritual modules to strengthen their character.

Saifuddin also expressed appreciation to partners in the Corporate Smart Internship (CSI) initiative.

This collaboration with 10 private-sector employers offers ODS job opportunities aligned with compassionate values.
