A man in northern Sweden is suspected of procuring for his wife, with over 100 men identified as buyers in a case that could lead to separate investigations.

STOCKHOLM: A man in his 60s is suspected of helping more than 100 men buy sex from his wife.

Prosecutor Ida Annerstedt told AFP the man was arrested in late October after his wife, who is in her 50s, reported him to police.

“He is suspected of having facilitated, or profited financially from, the sale of the complainant’s sexual services,” Annerstedt said.

The man has been remanded in custody since his arrest on suspicion of procuring.

The suspected crimes are believed to have occurred from January 2022 until his arrest last year.

Annerstedt said she expects to press formal charges on March 13.

Police are also looking into other suspected crimes linked to the case.

The prosecutor declined to say whether the woman had been forced to sell sex, citing the confidentiality of the ongoing investigation.

Sweden’s law bans the buying of sex but not the selling.

Public broadcaster SVT reported the man has denied the alleged crime.

He has previously been convicted of several offences, including assault and unlawful coercion.

Annerstedt confirmed that 120 individuals suspected of buying sexual services have been identified.

It is unlikely all can be investigated as part of the main probe.

Separate investigations into the buyers could be launched after the primary case concludes.
