Teacher feels sorry for a student’s worn-out shoes and helps glue them, only to learn he owns RM300 ASICS—leaving netizens amused by the unexpected plot twist.

A teacher’s ordinary morning at school recently turned into a story that left many netizens amused — and slightly puzzled — after a simple act of kindness revealed an unexpected twist.

In a post that has since circulated widely online, the teacher shared how a student approached him while he was busy preparing the lesson plan.

The student had a rather unusual request.

He quietly asked to borrow a glue gun.

At first, the teacher assumed the boy simply needed it for a quick repair.

However, a closer look revealed something that sparked concern.

The teacher noticed the student was barefoot.

Curious, he asked what had happened.

The boy explained that his shoe had come apart and he wanted to fix it himself.

The teacher recalled the moment in the post: “This morning, I was busy preparing lesson plans when suddenly a student came looking for me. In a quiet voice, he asked if he could borrow a glue gun.

“I looked down and noticed he was barefoot. He said one of his shoes had come apart and he wanted to fix it himself. I handed him the glue gun and told him to sit down.

“I started fixing it for him. When I looked closely, both soles were already coming apart widely—not a new problem. It seemed like it had been like that for a long time.

“While I was gluing, we chatted.

“In my mind, I was already thinking about buying him new shoes. His expression didn’t look like someone who was particularly comfortable or carefree.
“Then his friend interrupted, ‘Teacher, he has ASICS shoes at home. He doesn’t want to wear them. He wears these instead.

“I paused and asked, ‘“How much are those shoes?’ to which he said, ‘About two or three hundred.’

“I was like ‘oh’.

“Then I asked ‘What does his mom do?’

“He said ‘She’s a teacher next door.’

“Oh, again.”

“Alright. So it’s not a matter of not being able to afford it.

“Maybe those two- or three-hundred-dollar shoes just don’t suit his soul.

“Or perhaps these worn-out soles feel more comfortable because they’ve already become one with his feet.

“I continued gluing anyway, pressing firmly to make sure it stuck properly,” the post read.

What began as a moment of sympathy quickly turned into a humorous realisation for the teacher — that sometimes, it’s not about price tags or brands.

The post has since amused many online, with many calling it an unexpected plot twist.
“Erm plot twist,” one user called dyanafara commented.

“Hey, same here. When I was an intern lecturer, I once brought my college students to the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair. There was one student who didn’t eat and didn’t buy anything. I felt sorry for him — maybe he didn’t have money, and his clothes looked quite worn too. So I told him, ‘Go ahead and buy something, I’ll treat you.’

“Then suddenly my colleague (another lecturer) whispered to me, ‘You know his parents are lecturers at USM, right?’

“I was like, wow,” znzkiss shared.

“I just wanted to be sad,” yusri_ismai1 joked.
