ATHENS: Israeli television producer Dana Eden, co-creator of the hit spy thriller series ‘Tehran’, has been found dead in a hotel room in central Athens.
Greek police told AFP on Monday that the body of the 52-year-old Israeli national was discovered late Sunday in her hotel near Syntagma Square.
A police spokesperson said an autopsy had been ordered and that a review of surveillance footage indicated the death was a suicide.
Eden had arrived in Athens on February 4 for the production of the fourth season of the series, which is broadcast internationally on Apple TV.
Her company, Donna and Shula Productions, issued a statement calling it a moment of profound pain for her family, friends, and colleagues.
The firm strongly denied rumours suggesting her death resulted from a criminal act or was connected to her nationality, calling such claims incorrect and unfounded.
The statement asked for Eden’s dignity and the privacy of her loved ones to be respected.
The first three seasons of ‘Tehran’, which follows a Mossad agent working undercover in Iran, were also filmed in Athens.
Production on the fourth season was delayed following the Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent war in Gaza.
The series has become one of Israel’s most internationally sold productions and won an Emmy Award for Best Drama Series in 2021.
Israeli Culture Minister Miki Zohar paid tribute on social media, calling Eden one of the most prominent and influential producers in the Israeli television industry.
