Terengganu will discuss extending family entertainment centre hours to 1 am after operators appealed against a 10 pm curfew, with a meeting set before Aidilfitri.
KUALA NERUS: The Terengganu state government will consider an appeal from 11 family entertainment and karaoke centre operators to extend their business hours until 1 am.
State Local Government, Housing and Health Committee chairman Datuk Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah confirmed he had received the appeal letter requesting an extension from the current 10 pm closing time.
He stated that a discussion with the involved operators will be convened before the Aidilfitri celebrations to hear their views and the issues they are facing.
“I have received an appeal from the 11 family entertainment and karaoke centre operators in Terengganu,” said Wan Sukairi.
He added, “Before Hari Raya, I will call them in for a discussion to hear their concerns and reach a consensus.”
Wan Sukairi noted there is room for discussion on the matter, but emphasised that extensions will not be permitted during the ongoing fasting month.
The state government had enforced a 10 pm curfew for all such centres under local authority supervision, effective from February 28.
This curfew is applicable year-round and is not solely a restriction for the month of Ramadan.
Operators who fail to comply with the directive risk legal action under Section 11(2) of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 2002.
Conviction under this provision carries a maximum fine of RM10,000, a prison sentence of up to three years, or both.
