Terengganu FC players are reminded to maintain fitness and diet over the six-day Aidilfitri break, with a crucial match against JDT awaiting them next month.
KUALA NERUS: Terengganu FC players have been told to enjoy their Aidilfitri holidays but to strictly watch their diet and maintain their fitness levels.
Team manager Mohd Sabri Abas warned the squad to avoid sudden weight gain that could impact their stamina and speed on the pitch.
The players began a six-day break after their final training session. Sabri said the extended holiday was to allow them time with family after last year’s festive break was cut short for a match.
“Hopefully, this extended holiday can make up for last year, when players had to sacrifice their festive break to prepare for a match against Selangor FC,” he said.
To ensure fitness is maintained, the coaching staff have provided individual training programmes for the players to follow at home. Sabri emphasised the importance of early preparation for their next fixture.
Players must remember they will face the formidable Johor Darul Ta’zim, the 12-time consecutive Super League champions, on April 11.
“So even during the break, players need to watch their diet and avoid high-carbohydrate and oily foods such as lemang, ketupat and rendang,” he added.
Terengganu FC are currently fifth in the Super League standings with 31 points. They have five matches remaining before the season concludes in May.
