Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil says the commercial dispute between TM and DNB will not impact the national 5G coverage goal of 95%.
PUTRAJAYA: The commercial contract dispute between Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) and Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) will not affect the government’s target of achieving 95% 5G coverage in populated areas. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil confirmed this today.
He stated that the government has already achieved 80% 5G coverage, enabling the transition to a dual-network model. Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesperson, expressed confidence that the issue would not hinder future network implementation.
“We do not see the issue between these two parties affecting the implementation of the 95% level of the 5G network in the future,” he said after a Cabinet meeting. He described the matter as a commercial contract dispute between two MCMC licensees.
Fahmi expressed hope that both parties would sit down to examine and manage the issues well. The dispute centres on TM’s notice to terminate its 5G Access Agreement with DNB.
TM has stated it exercised its contractual rights by fully complying with terms for early termination related to the dual-network model. The telco insists its termination notice is valid and that it retains all its rights.
DNB has reportedly rejected TM’s termination notice, insisting the long-term contract remains valid until October 2032. DNB claims TM did not exercise its right to terminate early in accordance with the set conditions.
