President Trump hints at future US action on Cuba, following energy blockade and regime change rhetoric, as island faces fuel crisis.

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has suggested future US action targeting Cuba is “just a question of time”.

He made the remarks while addressing a White House reception.

Trump told Secretary of State Marco Rubio that he had been doing “a fantastic job on a place called Cuba”.

The comments intensify fears that the communist-ruled island could be next for US intervention.

This follows recent US and Israeli attacks on Iran that killed the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Both Trump and Rubio have openly desired regime change in Havana.

Washington already maintains a stringent energy blockade against Cuba.

The blockade has caused the nation’s fuel stocks to plunge severely.

No oil has been imported to the island since January 9.

This has forced airlines to curtail flights and deepened a long-running economic crisis.

The crisis worsened after the US capture of Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuela was a key oil supplier to Cuba.
