President Trump tells countries facing fuel shortages to take oil from the Strait of Hormuz, as US defence officials signal decisive phase in Iran war.

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump has told nations struggling with fuel shortages to seize oil from the Strait of Hormuz themselves.

In a Truth Social post, Trump said countries “that refused to get involved” in the Middle East war should “build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT”.

He added that the United States would not help them, stating “The U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed the sentiment during a news conference.

He described the Strait of Hormuz as an international waterway the US uses “dramatically less than most”.

Hegseth also said the next days of the conflict with Iran will be “decisive”.

He refused to rule out the use of US ground forces, stating “You can’t fight and win a war if you tell your adversary what you are willing to do”.

The Pentagon chief said talks on ending the war were “gaining strength” despite the ongoing military campaign.

He revealed he made an unannounced trip to visit US troops in the region over the weekend.

General Dan Caine, speaking alongside Hegseth, said US forces have struck more than 11,000 targets.

He stated the US continues to focus on destroying Iran’s ballistic missile and drone capabilities.
