Twelve Malaysian police personnel suspended as investigation into alleged cryptocurrency theft from Chinese nationals continues.
KUALA LUMPUR: Twelve police personnel have been temporarily suspended from active duties. The suspension is linked to an ongoing investigation into the alleged theft of cryptocurrency from Chinese nationals.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed the investigation is proceeding with statements being taken. Further actions will be determined upon the investigation’s completion.
“For now, the officers have been assigned to non-operational duties to ensure the investigation proceeds properly,” he said.
He made the remarks after attending a donation ceremony at the Cheras District Police Headquarters. The event was also attended by Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Mohd Khalid stressed the police force will take strict action against any officers involved in illegal activities. “We will not tolerate any wrongdoing,” he stated.
He added that if the law is broken, the force will take action and press charges where necessary. Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar had earlier confirmed the officers’ detention.
The detentions are in connection with a cryptocurrency theft reported in Kajang earlier this month.
