Two Malaysian Army personnel died after their car collided with a trailer and two other vehicles in Setiu, Terengganu.

BANDAR PERMAISURI: Two Malaysian Army personnel were killed in a four-vehicle collision on Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Bharu.

The victims were identified as driver Muhammad Aminuddin Amran, 21, and front-seat passenger Mohamad Shakiran Saidi, 36.

Setiu district police chief Supt Mohd Zain Mat Dris said the crash occurred when the victims’ Honda Civic, travelling from Kuala Terengganu to Kota Bharu, lost control and entered the opposite lane.

It then collided head-on with an oncoming trailer lorry.

The impact caused the car to slide and hit a Proton Saga before striking a parked Perodua Alza in a nearby covered garage.

The driver and passenger of the Proton Saga sustained minor injuries in the subsequent collisions.

The lorry driver emerged from the incident unhurt.

Firefighters from the Setiu station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call.

They found the two victims trapped inside their badly damaged car.

Special equipment was required to extricate the bodies of the two servicemen.

Medical personnel at the scene later pronounced both men dead.

The bodies have been sent to the forensics unit at Setiu Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Police investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.
